QR code lapse rules: what happens when you stop paying
20 services compared. Every row has a source link and the date we checked it.
Editable (dynamic) QR codes depend on the service that runs their short link. This table shows what 20 services do with those codes when a trial ends, a plan is cancelled or a payment fails. Each row quotes or paraphrases the vendor's own public wording, links to the page it came from and shows the date we checked it. Where we could not verify a point, the cell says Not verified.

How to read the table
-
Filter by outcome
Outcomes group the services: codes stop, a few codes keep working, codes keep working but cannot be edited, conditional rules, static only, or unclear.
-
Compare the moments that matter
Trial end, cancellation and a failed payment are different events. A service can treat each one differently, so each has its own column.
-
Open the source
The last column links to the page the wording came from. Policies change, so check the source and its date before you rely on a row.
Methodology
-
What we recorded
For each service: the plan type, what happens at trial end, after cancellation or a failed payment, any grace period or data retention, and any reactivation fee. We copied the vendor's wording where it exists.
-
How we checked
We read each vendor's public pricing, terms and help pages without logging in to a paid account and noted the page address and the date. Help articles read through a summary are marked as such.
-
Not verified
When a point was not stated on a page we read, the cell says Not verified, and gaps stay marked. Archive links are added per row as snapshots are stored.
-
Our own row
oqrely is one row, with its own weak spots listed. Its figures come from our pricing and terms. We re-check every row at least every 90 days and take a row down if it cannot be verified.
-
Corrections
oqrely is not affiliated with any service in the table. Names are used only to identify the services. If a row is wrong or out of date, write to us with the page address and we correct it.
Questions and answers
Do QR codes expire?
A fixed QR code stores its content inside the pattern, so it works as long as that content does. An editable code points to a short link run by a service, and it works only while the service keeps that link alive, which for most paid services means while you pay.
What happens to a QR code when a subscription ends?
It depends on the service. In this table, most paid services stop the redirect, a few keep a small number of codes running, and a few keep codes running but stop edits. The outcome filter groups them.
How can I keep a printed code working?
Know the rule before you print. Use a fixed code for content that never changes, or an editable code on a short domain you control, and keep the plan paid for as long as the print is in use. Export your codes before you cancel.
How often is the table updated?
Each row shows the date it was last checked, and the page header shows the latest check. We re-check rows at least every 90 days.
Can I download the data?
Yes. The CSV button downloads the same rows as the table, with the source address and check date for each. The page also carries the data as a schema.org Dataset.
