Google Maps QR code
Enter the coordinates and a place name. A scan opens the map at the exact spot, ready to start directions from wherever people stand.
A location QR code opens a map at an exact spot, ready for directions. It uses latitude and longitude, so it points to the right entrance, a meeting point in a park or a venue's car park. Enter the coordinates and a place name below, choose Google Maps, Apple Maps or the phone's default map app, and download.
Directions from where they stand
The sign at the gate carries the code. A scan opens the map on the exact spot, route included.
Templates for this code
-
Find us
A banner caption for flyers and invitations that need directions.
-
Entrance sign
A boxed code for the side entrance or the car park sign.
-
Trail marker
Brick-red rounded code for trails, markets and outdoor events.
How to make a location QR code
Get the coordinates
In Google Maps, press and hold the exact spot; the coordinates appear at the top or in the info panel. Copy the two numbers, latitude first.
Paste latitude and longitude
Enter them in the two fields, using a dot as the decimal mark, for example 52.520008 and 13.404954.
Name the place and pick the map
Add a short place name and choose Google Maps, Apple Maps or the geo format. Google Maps opens on almost any phone.
Check the pin
Scan the preview and confirm the pin sits on the right entrance, not the middle of the building.
Fixed or editable for a location?
-
Fixed QR code (static)
A place rarely moves, so a fixed code is free and opens the map directly.
-
Editable QR code (dynamic)
Choose editable for things that move: a pop-up stall, a food truck, a market stand or an event that changes venue. You update the location in the app and the printed codes follow. A pass from $12 covers a season with one payment.
Where people need directions
Invitations and event flyers
Guests go straight from the card to directions, without copying an address into the map app.
Hidden entrances and deliveries
Courtyards, side doors and loading bays that the street address does not reveal.
Trails, campsites and outdoor meeting points
Coordinates work where no street address exists at all.
Shop windows and ads
Point to your second branch or your parking, two blocks away.
Print tips for map codes
Say where it leads
"Scan for directions to the side entrance" beats a bare code, especially on an invitation.
Short codes, any size
Coordinates are short, so location codes print well small, from about 2 cm.
Add the address in text
Print the address under the code for people who prefer to type it or navigate by signs.
Map formats
- Google Maps
- A Google Maps search link for the coordinates. Opens in the Google Maps app or the browser on any phone.
- Apple Maps
- An Apple Maps link with the place name. Opens Apple Maps on iPhone and a web map elsewhere.
- geo
- The geo: format, which lets the phone choose its default map app. Best on Android, less reliable on iPhone.
Questions and answers
Before you print
- Is it free?
- Fixed codes are free: make as many as you like, download a PNG with no sign-up, and get every other format and print files with a free account. Editable codes come with a plan, a pass, Keep-alive or the 14-day trial.
- Can I change the link after printing?
- Yes, with an editable code. It holds a short link you control, so you can point the printed code somewhere new any time, and the next scan opens the new page. A fixed code keeps the link it was made with.
- Can I use my own domain?
- Yes. A custom domain is included on passes, from Starter, and during the trial. Starter covers one subdomain, for example go.yourbrand.com, and apex domains start on Pro.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Editable codes work to the end of your paid period, and after a failed payment every code keeps working for 14 days. Turn codes back on within 12 months. Fixed codes keep working as long as their links do.
Can I make a Google Maps QR code from an address?
The generator works with coordinates, because they point to an exact spot. Look the address up in Google Maps, press and hold the place, and copy the coordinates it shows.
Which map format should I choose?
Google Maps if you do not know which phones your audience uses: it opens on iPhone and Android. Apple Maps suits an iPhone-heavy audience, and geo lets Android phones pick their own map app.
Does the code start navigation automatically?
No. It opens the map at the pin. People tap directions themselves, choosing walking, driving or transit.
Can I link to my Google Business listing instead?
Yes: copy the share link of your business in Google Maps and use the website QR code page. That opens your listing with reviews and opening hours.
What if my event moves to another venue?
A fixed code keeps showing the old spot. With an editable code you change the location in the app, and every printed flyer opens the new place.
