vCard QR code generator
Type the contact once and get a code that phones read as a ready-made address book entry.
A vCard QR code holds a contact entry in the vCard format phones use for their address books. A scan opens a contact preview with an Add button, and name, company, phone, e-mail and website land in the right fields. Fill in the fields below. A fixed vCard code works offline, because the contact sits in the code.
A contact, saved in one scan
Print the code on a card, a badge or a door sign. A scan shows the contact, ready to add.
Templates for this code
-
Name badge
A banner for conference badges and lanyards.
-
E-mail signature
Pine rounded code for signatures and slides.
-
Desk plate
A boxed code for reception desks and door plates.
How to create a vCard QR code
Fill in the contact fields
First name, last name, company, job title, phone, e-mail and website. Leave out anything the person scanning should not keep.
Check the phone number format
Start with the country code, such as +49 30 for Berlin. Local formats can fail when the contact is used in another country.
Scan the preview and save it
Actually add the test contact to your phone, then open it. It is the quickest way to spot a name in the wrong field or a missing digit.
Download and place it
SVG, PDF and EPS stay sharp in print. PNG works for e-mail signatures, slides and documents.
Fixed or editable for a vCard?
-
Fixed QR code (static)
Fixed is the natural fit and we recommend it. The contact travels inside the code, so it works on a plane and in a basement. It is free to make and download.
-
Editable QR code (dynamic)
A printed contact file stays as printed. An editable code opens a hosted contact page with a save button instead, which you edit whenever your details change. That page comes with a plan, a pass or the trial.
Where people use vCard codes
Reception desks and front doors
Visitors save the office number and the e-mail for deliveries without asking for a pen.
Name badges
At events, a badge code turns a conversation into a saved contact before the next session starts.
Property and service signs
A sign with the agent or technician's contact code is saved as a person, which is easier to find later than a number in the call log.
E-mail signatures and slides
A small PNG of your contact code lets people on a video call save you from the screen.
Print tips for contact codes
Fewer fields, smaller code
A contact with name, phone and e-mail prints well around 2 cm. Add a long job title, an address and two websites and the code needs noticeably more room.
Use vector files for print
SVG, PDF and EPS scale without blur. A blurry edge between squares is a common reason a contact code fails on a badge printer.
Contrast beats colour
A dark brand colour on white works. Pale grey on white, or white on a busy photo, does not.
Fields the vCard code supports
- Identity
- First name, last name, company and job title.
- Reach
- One mobile number, one work e-mail and one website, which keeps the code readable at small sizes.
- Format
- vCard 3.0, read by the contact apps on iPhone and Android.
Questions and answers
Before you print
- Is it free?
- Fixed codes are free: make as many as you like, download a PNG with no sign-up, and get every other format and print files with a free account. Editable codes come with a plan, a pass, Keep-alive or the 14-day trial.
- Can I change the link after printing?
- Yes, with an editable code. It holds a short link you control, so you can point the printed code somewhere new any time, and the next scan opens the new page. A fixed code keeps the link it was made with.
- Can I use my own domain?
- Yes. A custom domain is included on passes, from Starter, and during the trial. Starter covers one subdomain, for example go.yourbrand.com, and apex domains start on Pro.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Editable codes work to the end of your paid period, and after a failed payment every code keeps working for 14 days. Turn codes back on within 12 months. Fixed codes keep working as long as their links do.
What is a vCard QR code?
It is a QR code whose content is a vCard, the standard file format for contacts. A phone that scans it shows the contact and offers to add it to the address book.
Does a vCard QR code need internet to work?
No. The contact details are inside the code, so the phone reads them directly. That is the main difference to a code that links to a contact page online.
Do iPhone and Android both support vCard codes?
Yes. Both read the vCard format from the camera and offer to create a new contact. Some older scanner apps show the raw text, which is still readable.
How much information can I put in a vCard code?
Technically a lot, but every field makes the code denser and harder to print small. Name, company, one phone, one e-mail and a website is a good balance.
What is the difference between a vCard code and a business card code?
The format is the same contact file. The business card page focuses on placing the code on printed cards, with card sizes and finishes. This page is about the contact format wherever you use it.
