A press kit QR code for journalists
Journalists scan your card or the stand sign and get the release, logos and print photos on their phone, ready to send to the desk.
A press kit QR code opens a page or a folder with everything a journalist needs: the press release, a fact sheet, logos, print-ready photos with credits and a press contact. Put the kit online, paste the link above and print the code on a card for the press table, the stand sign and the back of your business card.
The kit, straight to the newsroom
A journalist scans the press card at the stand and saves the launch photos to send to the desk.
How to hand out a press kit by scan
Gather the files
Release as PDF and as editable text, a one-page fact sheet, logos for light and dark backgrounds, and photos in print and web sizes.
Name them clearly
"Brightway-X2-blender-photo-print.jpg" tells an editor what a file is. "IMG_4471.jpg" gets skipped.
Put it on one page
A press page with each file and one ZIP of everything. Journalists on a phone download one file; at the desk, they take the ZIP.
Swap it for each news
New launch, new release: point the same code at the new kit, so cards printed last year still lead to current material.
Worked example: a blender launch at a consumer fair
- The card
- A business-card-sized press card at the reception desk: "Press kit: launch of the X2 blender" and a 2 cm code, plus the press contact's name.
- The kit
- Release in English and German, a fact sheet with the five key numbers, six photos at 300 dpi, the logo as SVG and PNG, and the speaker's headshot.
- After the fair
- The scan count shows forty journalists opened the kit; the press contact follows up with the ones who requested an interview.
Fixed or editable for a press kit?
-
Fixed QR code (static)
A fixed code holds the link to a press page on your site. It is free and fine when that page stays at one address.
-
Editable QR code (dynamic) Our pick for this job
An editable code moves with your news: point it at the next launch kit without reprinting cards, and see how many people opened it. From $9 a month after the 14-day trial.
What editors look for first
Print-ready photos
At least 3000 pixels on the long side for print, plus a web version under 1 MB. Add a credit line in the file name or a text file.
Usage terms in one line
"Free for editorial use with credit" on the kit page answers the question editors ask before they publish.
A real contact
A name, a direct e-mail and the hours they answer during the event. A generic inbox slows down a story with a deadline.
Questions and answers
Before you print
- Is it free?
- Fixed codes are free: make as many as you like, download a PNG with no sign-up, and get every other format and print files with a free account. Editable codes come with a plan, a pass, Keep-alive or the 14-day trial.
- Can I change the link after printing?
- Yes, with an editable code. It holds a short link you control, so you can point the printed code somewhere new any time, and the next scan opens the new page. A fixed code keeps the link it was made with.
- Can I use my own domain?
- Yes. A custom domain is included on passes, from Starter, and during the trial. Starter covers one subdomain, for example go.yourbrand.com, and apex domains start on Pro.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Editable codes work to the end of your paid period, and after a failed payment every code keeps working for 14 days. Turn codes back on within 12 months. Fixed codes keep working as long as their links do.
What belongs in a press kit?
The press release, a fact sheet, logos for light and dark backgrounds, print and web photos with credits, headshots of spokespeople and a press contact.
Should the code open a ZIP or a page?
A page with each file plus one ZIP. A ZIP alone is awkward on a phone; a page lets a journalist take just the photo they need.
How big can the kit be?
Keep the ZIP under about 50 MB, so it downloads on hall Wi-Fi. Large video files are better as a link to a video page.
Where should the press kit code go?
On a card at the press desk, on the stand sign near the reception, on the back of the spokesperson's business card and in the press release itself.
Can I change the kit after the cards are printed?
With an editable code, yes. Point it at the new kit in the app, and every card and sign leads there from the next scan.
Does this work for a band's electronic press kit?
Yes. Put the bio, photos, music links, a live video and the booking contact on the page, and print the code on posters and merch table signs.
