Collect tips with a QR code
Card-paying guests say thank you too, and your team sees it the same day.
To collect tips with a QR code, set up a tip page with a payment provider, paste its link and print the code on a counter card or the bill folder. Guests scan, pick an amount and pay by card or wallet. Name who receives the tips, so guests know where the thank-you goes.
A thank-you in one scan
A guest with no cash scans the counter card and leaves a tip for the team in a few taps.
How to set up tips by scan
Choose a tip page
Payment providers and tip services give you a link where guests choose an amount and pay. Pick one your team can cash out easily.
Make the code
Paste the link above and add a warm frame line, such as "Thank you! Tip here".
Put it where thanks happen
By the till, in the bill folder or on the chair of a salon station. Out of the way, never in the guest's face.
Worked example: a hair salon with four stylists
- The cards
- Each mirror carries a small card with one stylist's own tip code and first name under it.
- The moment
- After the blow-dry, the guest sees the card in the mirror. Nobody has to ask, and tips go straight to the right person.
- The change
- When a stylist moves on, the salon points that card at the new colleague's tip page with an editable code.
Fixed or editable for a tip code?
-
Fixed QR code (static)
A fixed code holds the tip page link. It is free and right for one tip page that keeps its address.
-
Editable QR code (dynamic)
Editable codes let you move cards between staff, switch tip providers and count scans per card, all without reprinting. From $9 a month after the 14-day trial.
Wording that feels good
Thank, then ask
"Thank you for coming! Tip the team here" reads warmer than a bare "Tips".
Say who receives it
"All tips go to the kitchen and floor team" answers the question many guests have before they scan.
Keep the jar too
Cash guests still like a jar. The code sits beside it for everyone paying by card.
Questions and answers
Before you print
- Is it free?
- Fixed codes are free: make as many as you like, download a PNG with no sign-up, and get every other format and print files with a free account. Editable codes come with a plan, a pass, Keep-alive or the 14-day trial.
- Can I change the link after printing?
- Yes, with an editable code. It holds a short link you control, so you can point the printed code somewhere new any time, and the next scan opens the new page. A fixed code keeps the link it was made with.
- Can I use my own domain?
- Yes. A custom domain is included on passes, from Starter, and during the trial. Starter covers one subdomain, for example go.yourbrand.com, and apex domains start on Pro.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Editable codes work to the end of your paid period, and after a failed payment every code keeps working for 14 days. Turn codes back on within 12 months. Fixed codes keep working as long as their links do.
Which service do I need for a tip page?
Any payment or tip service that gives you a link guests can pay on. The code opens that link, so you can switch provider later with an editable code.
Can each employee have their own tip code?
Yes. Make one code per person with their own tip link and first name on the card. Editable codes make it easy to reassign a card.
Do guests need an app to tip by QR code?
No. The camera opens the tip page in the browser, and guests pay with a card or a phone wallet.
Where should a tip code go in a café?
By the till at eye level, or in the bill folder. Guests decide to tip when they pay, so the code should be there at that moment.
How much do tip services charge?
Fees depend on the provider and the payment method. Compare what each one keeps per tip before you print, because the code can point to any of them.
Make thanks easy
Paste your tip page link, add a warm line and print the card for the counter.
