QR code for table ordering, one per table
Guests scan, choose and send the order from their seat, and your team knows exactly which table it came from.
A QR code for table ordering opens your online ordering page on the guest's phone, with the table already known. Make one code per table by adding the table number to the ordering link, print it on a tent card, and every order arrives in the kitchen tagged with the right seat.
Order from the seat
A guest scans the card on table 12 and the ordering page opens with the table already set.
How to set up ordering at the table
Get your ordering link
Your ordering or till system gives you a web link for guest orders. Most accept a table number at the end, such as /table-12.
Make one code per table
Paste the link with each table number. The bulk tool turns a list of twenty links into twenty codes in one go.
Print and label
Print the table number large beside the code, so staff and guests can see at a glance which card belongs where.
Test every table
Scan each card once before opening and place a test order. A wrong number is cheap to fix before service.
Worked example: a bistro with eighteen tables
- The cards
- Eighteen tent cards, each 3 cm code with the line "Scan to order" and the table number in bold above it.
- The service
- Guests order drinks and starters by phone, staff still greet every table and take questions. Orders land on the kitchen screen with the seat.
- The change
- In summer the terrace opens with six more tables. With editable codes the bistro prints six cards and points them at the terrace menu.
Fixed or editable for table ordering?
-
Fixed QR code (static)
A fixed code holds the ordering link itself. It is free and fine while your ordering system and its addresses stay the same.
-
Editable QR code (dynamic) Our pick for this job
Editable codes let you switch ordering provider, move tables or show a lunch menu at noon without reprinting, and they count scans per table. From $9 a month after the 14-day trial.
Tips for busy and quiet services
Keep the card upright
A tent card in the middle of the table stays visible next to plates and glasses, where a flat sticker gets covered.
Say what happens
"Scan to order and pay" tells guests whether staff still come by. Clear words cut questions at peak time.
Keep a paper fallback
A few printed menus at the bar help guests whose phone is flat. Ordering by scan works best as the fast lane.
Questions and answers
Before you print
- Is it free?
- Fixed codes are free: make as many as you like, download a PNG with no sign-up, and get every other format and print files with a free account. Editable codes come with a plan, a pass, Keep-alive or the 14-day trial.
- Can I change the link after printing?
- Yes, with an editable code. It holds a short link you control, so you can point the printed code somewhere new any time, and the next scan opens the new page. A fixed code keeps the link it was made with.
- Can I use my own domain?
- Yes. A custom domain is included on passes, from Starter, and during the trial. Starter covers one subdomain, for example go.yourbrand.com, and apex domains start on Pro.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Editable codes work to the end of your paid period, and after a failed payment every code keeps working for 14 days. Turn codes back on within 12 months. Fixed codes keep working as long as their links do.
Do guests need an app to order by QR code?
No. The phone camera reads the code and opens your ordering page in the browser. Guests choose dishes and send the order like on any website.
How does the kitchen know which table ordered?
Each table gets its own code with the table number in the link. Your ordering system reads that number and shows it with the order.
Can guests pay through the same code?
Yes, if your ordering system takes payments. The code only opens the page, so whatever your system offers, from card payment to splitting the bill, works as usual.
What size should a table ordering code be?
About 2.5 to 3 cm wide reads well from a seat at arm's length. Leave a white border around it and keep it away from the table edge.
What if I change ordering systems later?
With editable codes you point every table code at the new system in the app and keep the printed cards. Fixed codes would need new cards.
Can I make codes for many tables at once?
Yes. Paste or upload one link per table in the bulk tool and download every code as a ZIP, ready for your print template.
