A safety data sheet QR code per container
Staff open the current sheet from the shelf or the container in seconds, and every revision reaches every label.
A safety data sheet QR code opens the current SDS for a product on any phone. Upload each sheet as a PDF, print its code on the container label, the shelf and the store room door, and upload the new revision when the supplier sends one. Staff then always open the latest sheet.
Current sheet in seconds
A worker scans the shelf label and the supplier's latest safety data sheet opens on the phone.
How to put sheets one scan away
Collect the current sheets
Get the latest SDS from each supplier and name the files by product.
Make one code per product
Upload each PDF, or use the bulk tool for a full chemical list.
Label containers and shelves
Print durable labels for each container and the shelf edge where it stands.
Keep the folder too
The codes add speed; keep the paper or digital folder your rules ask for.
Worked example: a workshop with forty products
- The labels
- Each product shelf has a label with the product name and a 2 cm code reading "Safety data sheet".
- The revision
- A supplier updates a sheet. The safety lead uploads the new PDF and the shelf label opens it.
- The audit
- Scan counts show the sheets are opened, and the folder index matches the codes.
Fixed or editable for safety data sheets?
-
Fixed QR code (static)
A fixed code can only hold a link to a file you host yourself, at an address you must keep for good.
-
Editable QR code (dynamic) Our pick for this job
An editable code hosts each sheet and takes every new revision without relabelling, so we recommend it. From $9 a month after the 14-day trial; bulk codes cover a full product list.
Labels that work in a workshop
Chemical-resistant labels
Choose labels that survive solvents and cleaning, and test them after a week.
Name beside the code
Print the product name large, so staff scan the right label at a glance.
Phone signal
Check store rooms for signal and add a Wi-Fi point if scans fail inside.
Questions and answers
Before you print
- Is it free?
- Fixed codes are free: make as many as you like, download a PNG with no sign-up, and get every other format and print files with a free account. Editable codes come with a plan, a pass, Keep-alive or the 14-day trial.
- Can I change the link after printing?
- Yes, with an editable code. It holds a short link you control, so you can point the printed code somewhere new any time, and the next scan opens the new page. A fixed code keeps the link it was made with.
- Can I use my own domain?
- Yes. A custom domain is included on passes, from Starter, and during the trial. Starter covers one subdomain, for example go.yourbrand.com, and apex domains start on Pro.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Editable codes work to the end of your paid period, and after a failed payment every code keeps working for 14 days. Turn codes back on within 12 months. Fixed codes keep working as long as their links do.
Can a QR code replace printed safety data sheets?
Rules differ by country and workplace, and many require sheets to be readily available to staff. Use the codes as quick access and keep whatever folder or system your rules require.
How do I update a sheet when the supplier revises it?
Upload the new PDF to the same editable code. Every label for that product opens the new revision from the next scan.
Where should SDS codes go?
On the container, the shelf edge and the store room door, plus the index page of your safety folder.
What if the store room has no signal?
Test scans inside before you rely on the codes. A Wi-Fi point or a printed sheet by the door covers dead spots.
Can I make codes for every product at once?
Yes. Upload the list of products and files in the bulk tool and download every code as a ZIP for the label printer.
Can the sheet open in another language for staff?
Upload the supplier's language editions and label each code with its language, or put both editions in one PDF.
Who should own the sheet updates?
Name one person, often the safety lead, who receives supplier revisions and uploads them. One owner keeps every label pointing at the current sheet and the folder index in step.
The current sheet, every time
Upload your first safety data sheet and print the shelf label.
