Shelf label QR codes with the product story
Shoppers read the origin, the reviews and how to use a product at the shelf, where they make up their mind.
A shelf label QR code opens a product page from the shelf edge: origin, reviews, a how-to video or pairing ideas. Make one code per product line, print it small on the shelf tag next to the price, and update the page when the range changes. Shoppers get answers at the moment they choose.
Which oil to choose?
A shopper scans the shelf tag and reads about the farm and a recipe before buying.
How to add codes to shelf labels
Pick the products
Start with products people ask about: specialty food, tools, cosmetics, wine.
Make one code per product
Link each product page, or use the bulk tool for a whole aisle.
Print on the shelf tag
A 1.5 to 2 cm code beside the price, with "Scan for details" under it.
Worked example: a deli with forty oils and vinegars
- The tags
- Each shelf tag shows the price and a code to a page with the farm, the harvest and a recipe.
- The moment
- A shopper torn between two oils reads both pages and buys the one with the recipe.
- The update
- New harvest, new page. With editable codes the shelf tags stay put.
Fixed or editable for shelf labels?
-
Fixed QR code (static)
A fixed code holds one product link. It is free and fine for products whose page stays at the same address.
-
Editable QR code (dynamic) Our pick for this job
Editable codes keep shelf tags working when ranges, pages or shop systems change, and show which products shoppers ask about. From $9 a month after the 14-day trial; bulk codes cover a whole range.
Labels shoppers scan
Answer the shelf question
Origin, taste, size guide or how to use: link what people ask staff about.
Keep it small but sharp
A crisp 1.5 cm code scans from a hand's length; a blurry one does not.
Test under store lights
Glossy tags reflect; matte stock scans better in bright aisles.
Questions and answers
Before you print
- Is it free?
- Fixed codes are free: make as many as you like, download a PNG with no sign-up, and get every other format and print files with a free account. Editable codes come with a plan, a pass, Keep-alive or the 14-day trial.
- Can I change the link after printing?
- Yes, with an editable code. It holds a short link you control, so you can point the printed code somewhere new any time, and the next scan opens the new page. A fixed code keeps the link it was made with.
- Can I use my own domain?
- Yes. A custom domain is included on passes, from Starter, and during the trial. Starter covers one subdomain, for example go.yourbrand.com, and apex domains start on Pro.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Editable codes work to the end of your paid period, and after a failed payment every code keeps working for 14 days. Turn codes back on within 12 months. Fixed codes keep working as long as their links do.
What should a shelf label QR code link to?
The product's own page with what shoppers ask about: origin, ingredients, sizes, reviews or a short how-to video.
How small can a shelf tag code be?
About 1.5 cm works for a short link at hand distance. Use a short link to keep the code simple at that size.
Can I make codes for a whole range at once?
Yes. Upload the list of products and links in the bulk tool and download one code per product for your label print.
What if prices or products change?
The price stays on the tag; the code opens the page. With editable codes you can point a tag at a new product page without reprinting.
Can I see which shelf codes get scanned?
Editable codes count scans per code, so you see which products shoppers want to know more about.
Do shelf codes work for online stock too?
Link the page that shows other sizes and online stock, so shoppers can order what the shelf does not hold.
Do shoppers really scan shelf labels?
They scan when the label promises an answer they want, such as "Taste notes and recipe" or "Size guide". A clear line beside the code matters more than its size.
Can staff use the same codes?
Yes. Staff can scan a tag to answer a question with the full page in hand, which helps new team members on busy days.
