A room service QR code beside every bed
Guests browse in-room dining on their own phone, and the kitchen changes dishes and hours without reprinting a single folder.
A room service QR code opens your in-room dining menu on the guest's phone. Upload the menu as a PDF, print the code on a small stand by the bed or the desk, and add how to order, such as the room phone extension. When dishes or hours change, upload the new menu and every room shows it.
Late snack, one scan
A guest scans the bedside stand, sees what the kitchen serves after ten and dials to order.
How to set up in-room dining by scan
Upload the menu
Save the room service menu as a PDF with the hours at the top, then choose the PDF type above and upload it.
Say how to order
Add one line on the stand, such as "Order by phone: dial 5". The code shows the menu; the phone or app takes the order.
Print one stand per room
A small stand on the desk or bedside table is where guests look first. A card inside the folder is a backup.
Update with the kitchen
New season, new dishes: upload the new file and every room shows it from the next scan.
Worked example: a sixty-room city hotel
- The stand
- One acrylic stand per room with the code, the line "Room service: scan the menu" and the dial extension below it.
- The menu
- A two-page PDF: breakfast until 11, all-day dishes until 23, and a late snack list overnight.
- The result
- Housekeeping no longer swaps stained folders, and the kitchen changes the menu with the season in minutes.
Fixed or editable for a room service menu?
-
Fixed QR code (static)
A fixed code can only hold a link to a menu you host on your own site. It is free and works while that page address stays put.
-
Editable QR code (dynamic) Our pick for this job
An editable code hosts the menu file, swaps it whenever the kitchen changes and shows how often rooms open it. We recommend it, since menus change. From $9 a month after the 14-day trial.
What guests look for
Hours first
Put the service hours at the top of the first page, because that is the first thing guests check at night.
Photos sell
A few real dish photos lift late orders more than long descriptions do.
Match the room style
Print the stand in the hotel's colours, so it looks like part of the room and not a notice.
Questions and answers
Before you print
- Is it free?
- Fixed codes are free: make as many as you like, download a PNG with no sign-up, and get every other format and print files with a free account. Editable codes come with a plan, a pass, Keep-alive or the 14-day trial.
- Can I change the link after printing?
- Yes, with an editable code. It holds a short link you control, so you can point the printed code somewhere new any time, and the next scan opens the new page. A fixed code keeps the link it was made with.
- Can I use my own domain?
- Yes. A custom domain is included on passes, from Starter, and during the trial. Starter covers one subdomain, for example go.yourbrand.com, and apex domains start on Pro.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Editable codes work to the end of your paid period, and after a failed payment every code keeps working for 14 days. Turn codes back on within 12 months. Fixed codes keep working as long as their links do.
Can guests order room service through the code?
The code opens whatever the link points to. Most hotels show the menu and take the order by room phone; if your hotel system has an ordering page, link that instead.
Do guests need the hotel Wi-Fi to open the menu?
They need a connection, so put the Wi-Fi code on the same stand. Guests join the network with one scan, then open the menu with the second.
What if the kitchen closes early one night?
Upload a menu with the changed hours to the editable code. The stands in every room show it from the next scan.
Can I add a menu in another language?
Yes. Put each language in the same PDF behind a contents page, or link a short start page that lets the guest choose.
How big should the code be on a bedside stand?
About 2.5 cm reads well from the bed or the desk. Put it at the top of the stand so a phone or glass does not cover it.
