A wine label QR code for the e-label
The back label keeps allergens and energy, and one scan shows the full ingredient list and nutrition table for that wine.
A wine label QR code opens the electronic label of that wine: the full ingredient list and the nutrition declaration per 100 ml. Wine sold in the EU may give these online if allergens and energy stay printed on the bottle. Make one page per wine and vintage, link it above and print the code beside the word "Ingredients".
Read the label in one scan
A shopper scans the back label in the wine aisle and sees what is in the bottle, per 100 ml.
How to put an e-label on the bottle
Make one page per wine
List the ingredients in descending order and the nutrition per 100 ml: energy, fat, saturates, carbohydrate, sugars, protein and salt. Your e-label provider or your own site can host it.
Keep the page plain
The page carries the label facts in the languages of your markets. Shop links, offers and visitor tracking belong somewhere else.
Make the code
Paste the page link above. A fixed code links straight to the page, with nothing in between.
Print it with the word
Put "Ingredients" or the word in the market's language right next to the code. A symbol alone does not tell the shopper what is behind it.
Worked example: a family winery with six wines
- On the bottle
- The back label shows the allergen line "Contains sulphites", the energy as E 76 kcal per 100 ml and a 1.5 cm code under "Ingredients and nutrition".
- Behind the code
- Grapes, the preservative, the acidity regulator and the full nutrition table, shown in German, French and English with a language switch at the top.
- The next vintage
- The 2026 Riesling gets its own page and its own code, so a bottle bought years later still shows the facts for the wine inside it.
Fixed or editable for a wine e-label?
-
Fixed QR code (static)
We recommend a fixed code here. It holds the page address itself, opens the e-label directly and records nothing about the person scanning. Free, and it works as long as the page stays at that address.
-
Editable QR code (dynamic)
An editable code sends the scan through a short link that counts scans. That suits marketing codes on the neck tag or the case. Keep the e-label itself on a fixed code. Editable codes start at $9 a month after the 14-day trial.
Label details printers ask about
Size for a back label
A code of 1.5 to 2 cm scans well from a bottle in the hand. Keep a white border of four modules, because curved glass bends the edges.
Contrast on textured paper
Uncoated or felt label stock softens the edges of the squares. Print the code in black on a flat white patch, and test a printed sample before the run.
Allergens stay printed
Sulphites, egg and milk products must appear on the physical label in words. The code adds the rest of the facts and never replaces those lines.
Questions and answers
Before you print
- Is it free?
- Fixed codes are free: make as many as you like, download a PNG with no sign-up, and get every other format and print files with a free account. Editable codes come with a plan, a pass, Keep-alive or the 14-day trial.
- Can I change the link after printing?
- Yes, with an editable code. It holds a short link you control, so you can point the printed code somewhere new any time, and the next scan opens the new page. A fixed code keeps the link it was made with.
- Can I use my own domain?
- Yes. A custom domain is included on passes, from Starter, and during the trial. Starter covers one subdomain, for example go.yourbrand.com, and apex domains start on Pro.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Editable codes work to the end of your paid period, and after a failed payment every code keeps working for 14 days. Turn codes back on within 12 months. Fixed codes keep working as long as their links do.
What has to stay printed on the bottle?
Allergens such as sulphites, and the energy value, usually shown as E with the kcal per 100 ml. The full ingredient list and nutrition table may go behind the code.
Can the e-label page show our shop or a newsletter sign-up?
The e-label page should carry the label facts only, with no sales or marketing content and no tracking of visitors. Put your shop link on a separate code on the neck tag or the case.
Is the letter i next to the code enough?
Use the word "Ingredients" or its translation beside the code. A symbol on its own does not tell shoppers what the code opens.
Do we need a new code for every vintage?
Yes, when the ingredients or nutrition change. One page and one code per wine and vintage keep every bottle matched to its own facts, even years later.
Which languages should the e-label show?
The languages of the countries where the wine is sold. A short language switch at the top of one page is easier to maintain than separate codes per market.
How small can the code be on a back label?
About 1.5 cm for a short link. Shorter page addresses make coarser codes that print cleanly at that size, so keep the URL short.
Every bottle, its own facts
Paste the e-label page of your first wine and print the code with the back label.
