How to track QR code scans
Give every print its own code and the numbers tell you where people actually scan.
To track QR code scans, use an editable code, because its short link counts each scan on the way to your page. Make one code per flyer, poster or pack, name it after the place it goes, then open the app to see scans by day. Fixed codes can be measured through campaign tags in your own web analytics.
Every scan, counted
Each print gets its own code, so the café flyer and the station poster report separately.
Find the smallest size that scans
Track in four steps
Choose editable
Counting happens on the short link inside an editable code.
One code per place
Name codes after where they go: Café flyer, Station poster, Box insert.
Print and hand out
Use the same design, so the place is what differs.
Read the numbers
After a week, compare scans by day and move prints to the busy spots.
What the numbers tell you
Which places work
Two codes with the same design show which spot draws people in.
When people scan
Days and times show when a poster or a stand earns its keep.
What to print next
Spend the next run on the places and designs that scan.

Questions and answers
Before you print
- Is it free?
- Fixed codes are free: make as many as you like, download a PNG with no sign-up, and get every other format and print files with a free account. Editable codes come with a plan, a pass, Keep-alive or the 14-day trial.
- Can I change the link after printing?
- Yes, with an editable code. It holds a short link you control, so you can point the printed code somewhere new any time, and the next scan opens the new page. A fixed code keeps the link it was made with.
- Can I use my own domain?
- Yes. A custom domain is included on passes, from Starter, and during the trial. Starter covers one subdomain, for example go.yourbrand.com, and apex domains start on Pro.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Editable codes work to the end of your paid period, and after a failed payment every code keeps working for 14 days. Turn codes back on within 12 months. Fixed codes keep working as long as their links do.
Can I track a static QR code?
Not directly, because the scan goes straight to your page. You can add campaign tags to the link and see the visits in your own web analytics.
Does tracking slow down the scan?
No. The short link forwards at once and the count happens on the way through.
Do scanners see that they are being counted?
They see your page open as usual. Counts are totals per code, not profiles of people.
How many codes should a campaign use?
One per place or medium you want to compare. Ten flyers in ten cafés need ten codes.
Can I export the scan data?
Yes, from Starter you can export scans to CSV or Excel.
What does tracking cost?
It comes with every editable code: the 14-day trial includes it, then Starter is $9 a month.
