Grow your email list with a QR code
Customers in your shop join your list on their own phone, with a reason to stay subscribed.
To grow your email list with a QR code, put a card by the till that opens your sign-up form and says what subscribers get, such as early access or a monthly recipe. Customers scan while they wait, type their e-mail and confirm. Your list grows from people who already like you.
Join while you wait
A customer scans the counter card and joins the weekly letter before the coffee is ready.
How to collect sign-ups in person
Use your form link
Your e-mail service gives you a hosted sign-up form. Keep it to e-mail and first name.
Make the code
Paste the form link above. A frame line such as "Join our list" says what happens.
Say what they get
"New arrivals first" or "One recipe a month" gives a reason to sign up.
Place it where people wait
The till, the fitting room, the table, the receipt.
Worked example: a deli with a weekly cheese letter
- The card
- A stand at the till reads "Our cheese of the week, in your inbox" beside the code.
- The form
- First name and e-mail, then a confirmation e-mail with a welcome tasting note.
- The habit
- Subscribers come in on Fridays for the cheese the letter talked about.
Fixed or editable for sign-ups?
-
Fixed QR code (static)
A fixed code holds your form link. It is free and right while your e-mail service keeps the same form.
-
Editable QR code (dynamic)
Choose editable to switch e-mail services later or count sign-up scans by card and spot. From $9 a month after the 14-day trial.
What makes people subscribe
A clear promise
Say how often you write and what about. People subscribe to a promise, not a list.
Short form
E-mail first. Each extra field loses sign-ups at the counter.
Confirm and welcome
A double opt-in with a warm welcome gives you a clean list from day one.
Questions and answers
Before you print
- Is it free?
- Fixed codes are free: make as many as you like, download a PNG with no sign-up, and get every other format and print files with a free account. Editable codes come with a plan, a pass, Keep-alive or the 14-day trial.
- Can I change the link after printing?
- Yes, with an editable code. It holds a short link you control, so you can point the printed code somewhere new any time, and the next scan opens the new page. A fixed code keeps the link it was made with.
- Can I use my own domain?
- Yes. A custom domain is included on passes, from Starter, and during the trial. Starter covers one subdomain, for example go.yourbrand.com, and apex domains start on Pro.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Editable codes work to the end of your paid period, and after a failed payment every code keeps working for 14 days. Turn codes back on within 12 months. Fixed codes keep working as long as their links do.
Which form should the QR code open?
The hosted sign-up form of your e-mail service, so new subscribers go straight into your list with their consent recorded.
Is a QR sign-up allowed under privacy rules?
Yes, when the form asks for consent clearly and your e-mail service confirms the sign-up. Most services offer a double opt-in for this.
What can I offer for signing up?
Early news, a tip or recipe, or a small welcome discount. Send exactly what the card promised.
Where do email codes work best?
Where customers wait: the till, a café table, the fitting room, the takeaway bag, and the receipt.
Can I see how many sign-ups came from the card?
Your e-mail service shows sign-ups by form. An editable code adds scans per card, so you can compare spots.
How big should a counter card code be?
About 3 cm on a small stand at the till. Customers scan from where they stand, so put the stand at chest height.
Should I ask for more than an e-mail address?
Start with the e-mail and an optional first name. You can ask about interests in the welcome e-mail, once the customer already trusts you, which keeps the counter sign-up quick.
Can staff help customers sign up?
Yes. Staff can mention the card when they hand over the receipt. A short "our letter has the best offers first" is enough, and the customer does the rest on their phone.
